ITMA 2023 returns to Milan/Italy as the leading global sourcing exhibition dedicated to latest textile and garment technologies and solutions. With over 1,600 exhibitors from 44 countries, the ITMA brings together the whole textile supply chain. Key decision makers from across the world of textiles are expected to attend. On the way to the opening of the show, we asked Ernesto Maurer of Cematex, the organizer of the ITMA, 3 questions:

Transforming the world of textiles – that is this year's ITMA motto. What is your response to this? What is the motto of your trade show participation?
Transformation has many different meanings, and in the 4 years since ITMA 2019 in Barcelona/Spain the world has experienced numerous transformations and disruptions. However, in this large exhibition in Milan, the meaning of transformation has 2 aspects as a common denominator, innovation and sustainability. Both of them are vital to the industry’s growth and survival.

What do you hope/expect from the ITMA 2023?
Exhibitors and visitors are there to meet, not only each other but to shake hands with the future, that will secure growth in this very important sector of the worldwide industry.

What are the biggest challenges for the textile industry right now?
Right now, the textile and garment industry is challenged by increasing cost of materials and energy. The answers to these challenges are be found in innovation and sustainability. Whenever materials and energy are involved, innovative solutions for sustainable processes will provide adequate answers.
Anyone attending the ITMA 2023 will find these answers in action.

The interview was conducted by the TextileTechnology team with Ernesto Maurer, President of the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers (CEMATEX), Zurich/Switzerland.
