Piaggio und Autoliv are collaborating to develop an airbag for powered 2-wheelers. Until now, airbags have not been able to successfully establish themselves on motorcycles or scooters. An airbag should open within milliseconds in the event of a collision and form a protective cushion.
Motor vehicle safety systems manufacturer Autoliv Inc., Stockholm/Sweden, claims to have already developed the first airbag concepts for 2-wheelers using simulation tools and conducted full-scale crash tests. Together with the scooter manufacturer Piaggio SpA, Pontedera/Italy, these systems are now to be developed ready for series production and also brought to market.
